The period of the renewal of the lease for a further term in the hands of the East India Company appears even to be regarded by the apathetic as an event of some moment ; for in 1874 the East India Stock will cease and the profit and loss question is deserving of cosideration. [...] THE renewal of the Act of the Charter for granting to the East India Company a continuance of the government of India for a further period or term of years is naturally a subject of great importance to the Court of Directors and to the British public. [...] Of the first the complete text is in course of publication at the expense of the East India Copany.'
