The area of Reserved Lands at the beginning of the year was 350 square miles which increased to 453 square miles by the end of the year due to the preliminary notification of areas destined to be Reserved Forests in Godavari and to the notification under section 26 of the Forest Act by Collectors of small areas in Anantapur Cuddapah and Kurnool for management by pancbayats. [...] The Survey of India completed the 4-inch scale survey of the Galleri Extension Reserves in the Ganjam division and have taken up the topographical survey on a 1-inch scale of the Gudem Agency in the Vizagapatam division. [...] It is undoubtedly the fact that the introduction of early-burning has done a good deal to vitiate the efforts of the past; subordinates and the public alike have gathered the impression that the burning of the forest no longer signifies. [...] 1 52in the previous year) were distributed to the Khonds in the Ganjarn division to the Royas and Reddis of the Upper Godavari division and to the settlers in the Peddapur Agency in the Lower Godavari division for assistance rendered in fire-protection. [...] In the Upper Godavari the North Cuddapah the Tinnevelly and the Palghat divisions some areas were closed to grazing on account of severe and repeated fires in order to provide a period of recuperation to the forests and in the Vellore division the grazing fee was enhanced as a penalty for incendiary fires.
