[...] of great advantage to commercial people and keeping in view that the use of these notes were more or less firmly establishe.1 throughout the country the Committee could not recommend the discontinuance of the one-rupee note but insisted upon the keeping of metallic reserve against the notes in India. [...] In forwarding the memorial the Committee of the Chaber discussed the project in detail land held that the scheme required reconsideration and recommended an investigation by competent engineers not connected with the framing of the scheme. [...] Cu have come to Calcutta at a time when the echoes of the controversy over the Budget are still ringing in th3 Frees and the dint raised by the animated agitation againsthe doubling of the salt tax is likely to obscure many issues. [...] A time may come when it will be desiable to re-open that award and revitw the Meston Settlement in the light both of the experience gained since the woring of the Reforms and of the alterations which have taken place in the basic facts on which the award was originally founded.
