The heavy loss which you and the Nation have sutained would indeed be depressing were it not rdeemed by the knowledge that the brave comrade for whom we mourn performed his duties fearlessly and well as became a good soldier and gave his life for the great cause of Human Liberty and the defence of the Empire. [...] The usual course is two months but the old training I got at North Point still hung on to me and some of us were picked out to get on with the next stage of the game which meant going to Oxford to the School of Military Aeronautics. [...] Xavier's Father de Campigneulles as the best man to lay the scientific foundation of the new Institution." The merits of his teaching and the devotedness of the teacher stand publicly acknowleded by the " de Campigneulles Science Medal " founded by his grateful ex-pupils. [...] On the very day of his death he was as usual busy in the Physical Laboratory and gave class to the students of the Special Department.
