[...] The National Eucharistic Congress for India Burma and Ceylon held in commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of the Hierarchy in the country was celebrated in Madras from Wednesday the 29th to Friday the 31st of December 1937 with a success which exceeded the sanguine expectations even of the organizers of the Congress. [...] The nearness to Mylapore and the vigorous Catholic life of the 40 000 faithful scattered in the 18 well established parishes within the limits of the town the predominantly Catholic atmosphere of the city created by the many flourishing educational and charitable instittions existing there and the suitable accommodation for the large number of visitors were certainly uppermost in the minds of [...] The National Director of the Priests' Eucharistic League who convened the meeting welcomed the Delegates and explained to them the object of the meeting. [...] The news that the Hierarchy wished Madras to be the venue of the Congress infused fresh enthusiasm into the members."As the municipal boundaries of Madras included also Mylapore and the good working of the Congress would necessitate the support and friendly coperation of the clergy and the laity of both jurisdictions alike it was judged highly commendable that Mylapore be associated with Madr
