and conservation in respect of the ancient monuments of the State has been submitted to Government with the proposal that the work of looking into the conservation of ancient monuments might be transferred from the office of the Government Architect to the Deparment of Archtnology. [...] 50 000 prepared in connection with the conservation of the monuments at Sravanabelagola is engaging the attention of a Special Committee of Officers while it is also proposed at the suggestion of the Director-General of Archaiology in India that the Archmological Chemist with the Government of India might be invited to inspect the Gomata colossus and suggest the best means for preserving the stat [...] The success of the work of the Department in spite of the obvious lack of adequate staff and funds was rendered possible by the sincere co-operation of the members of the staff. [...] The little mud platforms in the navaranga and all the wooden and bamboo structures inside the temple should be removed and all use of the inside of the temple for any purpose such as storing etc. [...] The joints of the wall slabs may be pointed with coloured mortar and the collapsed slabs on the northern side of the temple may be replaced.
