Of course elevation and severe or mild winters will greatly modify the duration; of this period and consequently the data of appearance of the various generations which d reste necessarily overlap owing to the insect commencing the year in both the pupal and perfect insect stages; the eggs laid by the latter as soon as the weather is favourable thus hawing the start over the ones laid by the bee [...] It is probable that the greatest difficulty to be faced in endeavouring to prevent the spread of this pest on a large scale throughout the P. longifolia forests c2nfronts the Forest Officer in the presence of these areas of fire swept and mutilated forests in the Naini Tal and the Kumaun Districts. [...] The condition of the 13ahlhoti and Kaliniath Plantations in 1908 especially the latter and of the district pine forests form definite examples of the dangers existing from and the diffculties to be faced in connection with the state of the district P. longifolia forests. [...] It is probable that the fly lays its eggs close to those laid by the weevil in crevices of the bark of the tree or in the neighbourhood of or on the newly hatched weevil grub.
