Indian Central Cotton Committee Annual Report of the Director Technological Laboratory for the Year Ending 31st May 1940

In spite of the new developments in the work of the Laboratory relating to testing of samples for cotton firms and mills the bulk of the work of the Laboratory is still done for the Agricultural Departments which was and must necessarily remain one of its primary concerns. [...] This increase as may be expected from the preceding account is most pronounced in the case of the cloth and yarn test reports while the spinning test reports show a small decrease owing to the partial stoppage of work in the spinning room as explained above.6 The following table gives the strength of the staff employed at the Lboratory on 31st May 1940 together with the corresponding figures [...] In accordance with the arrangement entered into between the Indian Central Cotton Committee on the one hand and the East India Cotton Assocition Bombay Millowners' Association and the Ahmedabad Millowners' Assciation on the other hand samples of fair average quality of the chief trade varieties or of the early arrivals of these cottons in the local market were received and tested in the Lab [...] This investigation is in progress:"14 (6) Effect of employing different treatments in the blow-room.—Sometiine back the Indian Central Cotton Committee decided that the whole problem of employing different beater speeds in the crighton opener and the scutcher of giving different number of treatments in these machines of employing different sequences of machines in the blow-room on the spinning [...] When all the tests are completed they will be analysed and the results will be written up in the form of a bulletin.21 In the course of this investigation it was observed that the copper number of the samples drawn immediately after the monsoon was somewhat higher' than that of the samples drawn in the dry season.
