1939
The Research Scheme issued a planting memorandum during the year giving information regarding the market position the nature of the plant required and costs of production and the subject was also reviewed in the Quarterly Circular. [...] The findings are discussed in greater detail in the departmental report and suggestions for remedial measures are made along the lines of rotation of legumes the encouragement of non-leguminous covers and the application of fertilisers containing phosphates. [...] The trees will be tapped on both stock and scion and data obtained on the effect of the yield of the stock on that of the scion. [...] The clones were developed from estate mother trees and it was necessary to come to an agreement with the owners of the estates regarding the respective rights of themselves and the Rubber Research Board in the material. [...] The difference in the effects of the four covers was not significant but the best growth was in the Vigna plots.
