Shri S. Majid held the post of the Additional Director of Agriculture till the 24th May 1951 when he took over charge as Director of Agriculture during the absence of leave of Shri L. K. Handique from the 25th May to the 31st January though he continued to exercise general supervision of the work of the tirow More Food Campaign under Government orders in his capacity of Deputy Secretary Agricu [...] The main function of the Committees were :- (I) To review the work of the Grow More Food Scheme in progress on the basis of actual achievements through the seven-point programme. [...] On the basis of the area figures of the preliminary forecast of the autumn paddy and the yield rate stated above the outturn of autumn paddy in these districts was arrived at 155.144 Tons of clean rice.6 Wider Paddy.—On winter paddy 750 experiments were successfully conduted in the year 1951-52 and the following estimates of the district average yields were obtained with the percentage of samp [...] On the basis of the area figure of the Second forecast of winter paddy and the above yield rate the outturn from the region covered was estimated at 10 10 000 tons of clean rice. [...] The efforts of the Department as in the previous year were concentrated in (1) encouraging rural composting on a ever widening scale (2) the composting of town refuse and night soil which had not been utilised prior to the starting of the Town Composting in the State (3) the distribution of Bonemeal was intensified in the United Khasi and Jaintia Hills District and also introduced in plain areas
