The question of eradicating Gonag or wild rice in the mallad tract of the Southern Division is engaging the attention of the department. [...] The Bureau has also undertaken the publication for the benefit of sugar firms in India statistical notes bearing on the production and consumption of sugar in different parts of the world and the fluctuations in the world's price of sugar. [...] As indicated in last year's report the appearance of chlorosis of the leaf in the majority of the varieties of jute grown in Bengal offered a useful and obvious line of work which proved almost immdiately successful in the breeding of varieties free from the chlorotic tendency. [...] The use of the new sterilizing agent made in the Pula laboratory has brought the possibility of using pure bacterial cultures within the region of practical politics and it is hoped that the efficiency of the manufacturing process will be greatly increased. [...] At the Tea Experitrent Station demonstrations of the value of green manures as a means of preventing wash and of increasing the organic matter of the soil form an imporant part of the work in progress.
