The Mine Manager is now in charge2 of the mine while the Administrative Officer is in charge of the general administration at Khewra and the sales and accounts of the Salt Range Division thus enabling the technical officers to devote their time to development of the mines etc. [...] The immediate charge of the new Salt Range Preventive Circle which comprises the Preventive circles of the Salt Range and the Punjab portion of the Internal Branch is held at present by a supernumrary Assistant Commissioner independently but as soon as the supernumerary post is absorbed in the sanctioned cadre a Superitendent will be placed in charge of the circle under the control of the [...] The change over at short notice from the old set of rules to the new rules produced some confusion at first owing to the unfamiliarity of the concessionaries with the requirements of the new rules and owing to the failure of some of the approved dealers to keep adequate stocks of the kind of salt required by the concessionaries. Stock balance and clearance of salt during the year.—The uncleared balance of indents at the beginning of the year amounted to 72 730 maunds and the sales of the year amounted to 63 96 942 maunds so that the total liability amounted to 64 69 672 maunds of which 59 56 329 maunds were issued leaving an uncleared balance of 5 13 343 maunds at the end of the year.
