The continuous rains in the second fortnight of July together with those in the first fortnight of August checked the growth of cotton and Jowar to some extent as they prevented intertillage operations and owing to the absence of sunshine the plants made little headway for a month. [...] In the case of cotton and jewtir the season was ufavourable owing to the absence of late rains but in the case of bajri this was not felt.' It may be well therefore not to be too dogmatic in drawing conclusions about the first two crops but it seems quite clear that the application of such a large dressing as 10 tons of farm-yard manure to the bajri crop is not economical in practice. [...] In order to ascertain the effect of ploughing the la) upon the outturn of the cotton crop the following comparati trials were made. [...] The very favourable yields of jowir are due to the fact that plots 41 42 43 and 4 t were given one watering towards the close of the season This has made the cost of production heavy but nevertheless the irrigation has abundantly repaid the expediture thereon.
