The Edilpur 'grant of Ke6avasena is dated in the year 3.11 These dates d [...] The Janibigha inscription records the grant of a village to the Vajrasana for the residence of the Ceylonese monk Mafigalasvamin by king Jayasena the lord of Pithi son of Buddhasena." The inscrition bears the date the year 83 of the Laksmanasena Era the 15th day of the bright half of the month of Karttika. [...] (1) the knowledge of the proper god (2) the knowledge of the proper mantra for the special sacrifice and (3) the knowledge of the details of the rituals to suit each particular occasion. [...] Thus it is very clear that at the time of the performance of the yajilas recitation of the history of the mantras was an inseparable part of the ceremony and that the knowledge of the Purana or the origin of the mantra was essential with the Vedic priests. [...] Being the history of the gods and the Itsis the Purana literature had to deal with the original or primary cretion the secondary creation or the creation of the world men were living in and the Manvantara-revolutions; again as associated with ItihAsa it had to narrate the stories of the ideal epoch-making rulers and to maintain the records of many Rafamilies of note.
