PREFACE Of the rules of practice and procedure of the Supreme Court of Calcutta since its establishment in 1774 I have been able to trace refeence to the existence of the following editions : —(1) An edition of 1789 (referred to in the preface of the edition of 1798) ; (2) An edition published in 1798 by Lewis Kerr; (3) An edition of 1803; (4) An edition of 1818; (5) An edition by Longueville C [...] Copies of the 5th edition (by Longueville Clarke) and of the supplement thereto and of the 6th edition (by Smoult) and of the 7th edition Eby Smoult and Ryan) and of the supplement thereto and of the 8th edition by Skinner are in the Bar Library of the Calcutta High Court. [...] Of the rules of practice and procedure of the High Court (Original Side) since its establishment in 1862 up to the time of the revision of the rules in 1914 there have been the following publications which may be noticed :—(r) A collection of rules included in the second edition of Broughton's Code of Civil Procedure (Act 8 of 1859) published in 1867: (see pp. [...] The following matter is for the first time included in this edition :- (1) The Charter of 1726; (2) Sir Charles Wood's Despatch; (3) Extracts from the Indian Bar anincils Act of 1926 ; (4) Extracts from the Goverment of Ind& Act 1935 ; (5) the Instructions to His Excellency the Governor-General of India and the Instructions to His Excellency the Governor of Bengal ; (6) the list of gentlemen [...] Was appointed the first Chief Justice of the High Court of the North Western Provinces established in 1866 ; was one of the thirteen Puisne Judges of the High Court appointed by the Letters Patent 1862.
