The latter fort however is situated in the liarid 3. The following is a short history of the formation of the Taluka :—At the time of the original settlement the 117 Government Changes and persent coand 88 Intim villages above mentioned formed postitution. [...] The lesser valleys are the Morgiri in the south-west the Tgrli and Claphal valleys in the north-east and the Koleh valley in the south-east. [...] The tributaries of the Koina are the Kera which rising in the north joins the Koina at Patan and the river Morna which takes its rise in the south-west of the Tgluka RECLAIMED. [...] 466 dated the 30th December 1862 :— Para 4.— The valley of the Krishna the lower part of the Koina and Koleh valleys consist for the most part of the finest alluvial black soil and the annual rains are as certain and reliable as is well possible ; as in Targaon and Satara the fall of rain increases in severity as one proceeds to the west and finally in the hill villages at the head of the Kole [...] Rice negli stiva and varai are the staple food-grains of the people in the northern and western portions of the district; joviri and nachni in the south and in the east principally jovari.
