C. B. reporting the circumstances of a successful attack made upon a portion of the enemy in the neighbourhood of his camp by a detachment of the troops under the Majo[...] In publishing to the troops under his command the return of casualties which occurred in the skirmish at Guilee on the 22nd instant as well as the return of ordnance captured by them the Major-General is happy to hive to record his approval of the conduct of Staff-Sergeant Roddy who was in command of the two guns attached to Colonel Guy's column and whom his commanding officer Captain Olphert [...] During the earlier portion of Major IdIcIntyre's occupation of Alubagh whilst cut of from communication with Cawnpore uncertain of the fate of the rest of the force from the moment when he lost sight of it in the suburbs of Lucknow and surrounded by a numerous enemy his command was one of grave and anxious responsibility and the firm and able manner in which he used his small resources to [...] Having been directed to report upon the circumstances attending the occupation and defence of the Alumbagh I have the honour to state for the information of the Major-General Commanding that on the advance of the force on Lucknow on the 25th of September last under the late Major-General Sir Henry Havelock K.C.
