The subscription to the Education Fund shall be restricted for the present to the admission of one hundred scholars into the school of the institution—that being calculated to be the greateAk number which can be admitted during the first year without detriment to the good order of the school and the progress of the scholars. [...] It was not alone in the class-rooms and during the hours of teaching that the genial manner the buoyant spirit the ready humour the wide reading the readiness to impart knowledge and the patience and courtesy of Derozio won the hearts and the high reverence of his pupils. [...] Baboo Ausootosh Dey an elected member of recent appointment who.has only twice attended the meetings of the management suinitted the following statement of his views on thu subject : The Hindoo College when established in the year 1816 was designed fGr the eduction of the higher class of the Hindoos exclusively so that the principle of eaclusivimess has been the very foundation of the [...] 598 dated the 10th March 1854 the Council of Education reported the above events to the Government and suggested the perpetuation of the memory of the founders by the institution of scholarships as well as " by the erection of a marble tablet in a promnent position in the present Hindoo College building on which should be inscribed a brief history of the origin of the college with the name [...] The Council proposed to close the Hindu College at the end of the current session on the 15th April 1854 and on the same day to announce the constitution of the Presidency College and the Hindu School which were to open on the 15th June 185The Government however was of opinion that it should wait for the approval of the-Hon'ble Court before " the formal declaration of the new constitution o
