The Agricultural School at Somanahally and the Maddur Range were under the charge of the Bangalore Assistant Director for a period of four months from January 1941 and for the remaining months they were under the control of the Assistant Director of Agriculture Mandya. [...] Cotton-breeding work in the Babbur Farm suffered owing to the conditions of drought in the locality the rainfall recorded in the Farm being only 12 inches the lowest on record for the past 18 years as against 25 inches in the previous year. [...] The cumulative benefit of the several improvements suggested by the Department in the cultivation of paddy has raised the average yield of the farm to 1 531 seers per acre from an average of 1 187 seers of grain per acre. [...] It failed entirely during the growing period of the crops and the effect of the low rainfall on the yields specially of the dry crops was disastrous. [...] A very large number of experiments are conducted on the Farm by the Scientific Sections of the Department and the results are incorporated in the respective reports of the Scientific Sections.
