If the whole of the bitterns is not required it is obviously very desirable to make a careful investigation of the bitterns from the various wells before collecting material for the manufacture of magnesium chloride.4 Mackenzie Wallis suggested that the large proportion of manesium chloride in Kharaghoda brines may be due to the fact that the pans have been in use for many years arid that the [...] This meeting was held early in January 1915 when a representative of the salt department the Managing Agents of the Eastern Chemical Company Limited and their Works Manager a lessee of some of the salt pans at Matunga and the author were present under the Chairmanship of the Collector of Bombay Mr. [...] The new company soon found that it was necesary to improve the process of manufacture with the double object of reducing the consumption of fuel and of bringing the quality of the product up to the standard of the German article. [...] Another matter for consideration is the.treatment of the sludge in the settling tank after the removal of the magnesium chloride. [...] Owing to the extreme dryness of the air in Kharaghoda the richness of the bitterns in magnesium salts and the improved manner of working Kharaghoda should be soon the centre of a flourishing industry supplying not only India's needs but that of other countries as well.
