Reorganisation of Gaushalas and Pinjrapoles in India

1949

With this end in view the problem of reorganisation and development of Gaushalas came for discussion in the meeting of the Animal Husbandry Wing of the Board of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry in India in 1942. [...] In pursuance of the recommendations adopted by the Board a meeting of a few representatives of Gaushalas and Pinjrapolee from the major provinces was held in New Delhi on 25 March 1944 under the auspices of the then Imperial Council of Agricultural Research with the late Sir Jogindra Singh Member for Education Health and Lands in the chair. [...] After detailed discussion of the various aspects of the problem it was considered that the first step was to make a rapid survey of these institutions for the purpose of obtaining a general picture of the methods of their working and the facilities and resources available to them under the existing conditions. [...] The detailed description of the scheme and the conditions for grant of subsidy for supply of cows are given in Annoxure V. C. TRAINING OF GAUSHALA WORKERS For efficient management of Gaushalas it is absolutely necessary that the persons in charge of these institutions should be trained and qualified in the handling and management of cattle. [...] The Board will be constituted within a year of the appointment of the Gaushakt Development Officer and the election of the representatives of the Gaushalas will take place every year.
