Report on the Administration of Municipalities in the Northern Division for the Year 1938-39

The total number of Municipalities in the Northern Division at the end of the year remained the same as in the previous year viz. [...] The increase is due to the extension of boundaries of the Ahmedabad Municipality in the year under report and also of the Kapadwanj Municipality in the preceding year. [...] The total amount of arrears of taxes and dues in all the municipalities of the Division at the end of the year was Rs. [...] This was mainly due to the refunds in Ahmedabad of taxes on valuations as revised by the Special Magistrate in respect of Mills and factories to increased establishment charges on account of the appointment of valuation officers for the quadrennial revision of valuation and to the distribution of the triennial bonus among the subscribers to the Ahmedabad Municipal Provident Fund. [...] Owing to the abolition of the Sindkheda Municipality in West Khandesh District the total number of municipalities at the close of the year was 58.
