As the entire success of the survey depends on the reliability of field work and consequently on the training received by the staff the greatest attention was paid to the question of the training of field staff. [...] Firstly the field staff were gathered at the ricbreeding station where the plan of work the duties and responsibilities of each member of the field staff the meaning and imp'ications of the instructions drawn for the actual conduct of field work the manner in which the returns were to be filled in and despatched were read out discussed and explained at length several time over until the [...] It also showed that the iformation supplied including that on the general conditions of the crop at the time of the selection and on the changes in the condition of the crop since the date of selection was detailed and complete. [...] The results of the X' test of significance show that the magnitude of the mean square between villages is of he same order in all sustrata and indicate that the sampling variance of the district estimate of yield can properly be calculated from the results of pooled analysis of variance for the district given in the table. [...] The relative position of the plot defined by the quotient of the random number of the starting point of the plot by the length of the field less the length'of the plot is given in column 1.
