Unfortunately towards the close of the enquiries heavy rains and floods and the consequent dislocation of transport facilities necessitated the restriction of the scope of the enquiry and the enquiries in Cachar had to be dropped. [...] Having regard to the limited time available for the completion of the enquiries and the fact that a rather comprehensive schedule was drawn up for investgation of conditions of work and wages it was thought desirable to restrict the sample in the Assam Valley to 24 gardens in the membeship of the Indian Tea Association and to 4 Indian owned gardens in the membership of the Assam Tea Planter [...] The following table gives the number of gardens in the membeship of the Assam Tea Planters' Association and the area under tea district-wise :— TABLE I Distribution of gardens in the membership of the A.T.P. [...] The leaf is weighed with the basket and the needle of the balance indicates the net weight of the leaf. [...] The variations in task depend on the nature of the soil the state of maintenance of the estate the lay of the land etc.
